How You Can Help
Ministry and Service Opportunities
There are so many things we do that need your help! The more people we have to help, the better we can serve others! Please look at the opportunities below and consider how you can use your talents to serve the community.
Community Outreach and Charity
- Sandwiches for the Homeless
Help us prepare over 100 bagged lunches in an assembly line for the men in the local men’s shelter. No RSVP necessary; just show up!
- Center for Pregnancy Concerns
Donate to or help at a local center that takes care of mothers and their children in so many ways, all to support their life and wellbeing!
Please contact Allison Benson (Allison@centerforpregnancyconcerns.org) at the CPC if you are interested!
- Our Lady of Victory Food Panry
Our Lady of Victory is in need of volunteers on Saturday mornings for an hour to help out in the food pantry. This really is an amazing chance to help out those in the community with food needs. We are also always accepting donations to the pantry at the Parish office.
Contact Tess Babcock at email@example.com for more information!
- Annual High Hopes for Haiti 5K
The annual Mortel Foundation High Hopes for Haiti 5K is October 1st at 9am! It will be held on campus and the course will start on Center Dr. Volunteers are needed as are runners! The Mortel Family Charitable Foundation was founded in 1997 to serve the poorest of the poor in Haiti. It is the first organization in the US that is involved in every level of education and schooling in Haiti.Founded by a Haitian, the Mortel Foundation started with a primary school and has grown over the past decade to include a secondary school, a vocational school and an adult literacy program.

- Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC)
- Music Ministry
Sing or play music, make lyrics PowerPoints, and operate the mixing board at Sunday Mass
- Sunday dinners
A big way to help the Catholic Retrievers is to provide a meal for Sundays after mass! You can cook something yourself or order delivery from a restaurant! If you can only provide one item to a meal, that is fine too! Anything is helpful! Sign up to donate using our Meal Train! Email Tess (Tesslab1@umbc.edu) for questions & details.
- Wednesday dinners
Setup for Wednesday dinners can be complicated, and we want to transition from Mass space to dinner space pretty quickly. We would need help with clearing the chairs from Mass, setting up buffet tables, and helping Tess set up the buffet line (food, utensils, plates, drinks, napkins, etc.). Please email Tess (Tesslab1@umbc.edu) or Kenny (email@example.com) to let us know if you can help!
- Bake Free
We are blessed with very generous people in the Catholic Retrievers family, so we are able to offer free baked goods giveaways on campus! We don’t ask for money, but simply want to connect with students and let them know about our events...and offer them a cookie. Please consider helping in many different ways (Baking cookies/brownies, bagging, transporting & set up, or helping give them away!) The bake-frees take place usually between 11:40 PM and 1:10 PM. These are very fun and a great opportunity to meet new people and have a conversation about our community to those who may not know about us! Please email Will (firstname.lastname@example.org) to let him know you can help out, either with the baking or with the giving!
- Semester Kick-Offs
- Haiti Spring Break Trip
Join some of the Catholic Retrievers on a trip to serve an orphanage in Haiti during spring break! For more information, sign a mailing list after Mass or email Becky (email@example.com).
